SONG POEM LETTER STORY OPINION ARTICLE ESSAY

Infatuated with language

Born in Britain, raised in Belgium, having studied across Europe and living in Amsterdam whilst working on a global career, I like to be called a European citizen.

All those countries, all those cultures. Each with their own languages and particularities. I adore them as much as I learn from them. Each encounter with a ‘foreign’ sound, smell or impression makes my heart race faster. As does my brain. The latter has a fondness for grammatical structures, vocabulary (in Dutch we call it ‘woordenschat’ or ‘treasure of words’) and the playfulness and creativity required when engaging with language.

I speak Dutch and English as my native mother (and father) tongues, German and French fluently with university degrees to prove it, as well as Spanish which I was taught in Oxford and Madrid. I also vaguely know my way around Greek and Italian whilst currently dabbling with Polish.

All to say, I really like language and I sometimes like to write it down. This can be in the form of a song, a poem or a letter, but also as an essay, an opinion, speeches, blogs, articles or even brainstorming for business names, slogans and catch phrases.
